Things to know

Before  getting your

  • Pain Relief

We DO NOT advise using any topical pain relief that is not designed specifically for the tattooing process. Some numbing products can cause temporary changes to the outer layers of skin, which can affect the final outcome of the tattoo.

If you are looking for a way to ease the pain during your tattoo Benchmark sells two different kinds of pain reducing products. They are available to buy in the shop or from our online store.

  •  Recovery Numb - must be put on 45min before your tattoo is started.

  •  Hustle Helper - is only used after your tattoo is started and the skin is broken.

DO NOT use over the counter painkillers, prescription painkillers, alcohol or other drugs. They will cause an increase of bleeding.

  • Eat Beforehand

Make sure you eat something wholesome and carbohydrate-based before leaving for the studio to keep your blood sugar levels elevated for the next few hours. A good sized meal should also help to keep you feeling alert and not too sluggish/drowsy.

  • Comfort Essentials

There are a few things you can take to a tattoo sitting to make things a bit easier for yourself. Make sure you make a bag up which contains a few items such as a snack/lunch (for tattoos over an hour), a fully charged cell phone, and maybe some headphones.

  • Wear Comfortable and Loose Clothing

Wear clothes that allow easy access to the area where you want to get the tattoo.

Example: If you are getting a thigh tattoo, wear or bring shorts. Loose clothing around the area that is being tattooed is also suggested so that the material will not rub on the newly tattooed area after your appointment is finished.

Also note there is the possibility of blood or ink on whatever you’re wearing on the day, so make sure you don’t leave the house in your favorite outfit.

  • Shower/Bathe Beforehand

Be sure to shower or bathe before your tattoo to ensure that your body is clean and ready to be tattooed. The area you intend to get tattooed should be clean and undamaged.

  • Don’t Shave The Area Of Skin That Is About To Be Tattooed

If your skin needs to be shaved, your artist will do it for you.
